Mercury Travel application is the new version of a software product called Paxfinder.
IT22 in conjunction with Trans Island Travel have initiated this project in 2018 and is
currently ongoing with expanding its functionalities.
Paxfinder was an application which manages tourist bookings, transfers, events
(excursions). Most of the functions within Paxfinder are manual and require a lot of user
input. TUI as one of the main suppliers of larger DMC’s like Trans Island Travel faces a lot of
issues with human input errors in the current system. In this context TUI required an
automated system in order to accurately process the flow of new bookings and transfers.
Mercury Travel Application is created with the base of Paxfinder (Data study, views,
IT22 in co-operation with travel experts from the DMC have extended the system to an
almost automated solution with a similar user experience, which in turn reduced the
training cost of users of the system.
Mercury has been created as a web application instead of a desktop application.
Through a smart API it’s easy to integrate with currently existing systems (TUI’s system to
push/pull new tourist information) and third-party integrations of tour operators.
A new function that was added in Mercury is Driver management (resource management).
This system automatically checks which drivers, guides or private tour operators are
available when a new request comes in and assigns available employees to their new task.
An assigned employee will get a push message on his/her phone to acknowledge the new
task, in case the employee does not respond within a set time frame the system
automatically finds another available employee. In case no employee is available the
operations division will get a push notification on screen and through a mobile application
to solve the problem manually. In future development we are also working on using GPS
information on vehicles to guide them to a new task depending on distance to make the
transfer part of the companies more efficient by reducing fuel cost and personnel required.
